Korle Bu interdicts 2 doctors, 2 nurses over hit-and-run case

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has taken disciplinary action against two doctors and two nurses, interdicting them over their alleged failure to provide emergency care to a hit-and-run victim, resulting in the victim’s death.
The hospital’s management made the announcement in a statement issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, in response to public concerns surrounding the incident.
An internal committee has been established to investigate the matter and determine the facts surrounding the conduct of the medical staff involved.
The hospital has directed all individuals connected to the case to cooperate fully with the committee to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry.
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, and quality healthcare delivery, assuring the public that further updates will be communicated upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.
A 29-year-old engineer, Charles Amissah, employed at Promasidor Ghana Limited, succumbed to his injuries following a hit-and-run accident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026. After sustaining severe shoulder injuries, he received initial treatment from EMS, who stabilised his condition and prepared him for transfer to a hospital.
However, Amissah was denied admission by three major hospitals – Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital – due to unavailability of beds.
Despite warnings from the ambulance team regarding the risks associated with further movement, hospital staff refused to facilitate his transfer. While awaiting transfer at Korle Bu, Amissah suffered a cardiac arrest.
CPR was administered, but unfortunately, it proved unsuccessful, and he was subsequently certified dead. His body was then transported to the mortuary, and the EMS team returned to base in the early hours of February 7.
