The Kumasi Metropolis has witnessed a devastating fire outbreak at the Anwona Market near Afful Nkwanta, merely 24 hours after a similar incident at Sofoline Magazine, raising fresh concerns about fire safety in commercial centers.

On Monday night, at approximately 10:00 pm, a fire ravaged several shops and their contents at the market. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service promptly responded to the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures and nearby properties.

Although the cause of the fire remains unconfirmed, eyewitnesses believe that the blaze started from a section of the market housing a footwear factory.

No casualties have been reported, but traders at the market have suffered significant losses, with goods and equipment reduced to ashes.

An investigation has been initiated by the Fire Service to determine the exact cause of the incident, as authorities renew calls for improved fire safety measures in markets and commercial hubs.
