Police intercept vehicle carrying suspected narcotic drugs

The Volta Regional Police Command has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, following the successful interception of a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances along the Accra-Aflao road on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

In a meticulously planned intelligence-driven operation, Police personnel intercepted a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FK692KF near Kpotame, close to Sogakorpe. The driver, identified as Charles Adenkule, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was apprehended and is currently cooperating with investigations.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of ten parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram. The estimated street value of the seized substances is GHC 1,032,650.00.

Furthermore, approximately half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP/Mr. Wisdom Akorli, who received the intelligence through the Director of Police Intelligence Unit, deployed a combined team of personnel to conduct the operation.

The exhibits are scheduled to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and analysis.

The Volta Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other forms of crime, and encourages the public to continue providing credible information to support policing efforts.
