Volta Health Directorate to probe driver arrested with suspected narcotics

The Volta Regional Health Directorate has formed a Committee of Enquiry and is enforcing stricter vehicle monitoring and tracking measures following the detention of one of its drivers for allegedly conveying suspected narcotic substances.

In a statement issued on January 25 and signed by Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, Regional Director of Health, the Directorate disclosed that it had received reports of a viral story involving Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a driver for the Directorate, who was detained at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho on Friday, January 23.

The arrest of Mr. Dogbey occurred while he was operating an official vehicle, registration GV 2460-14, allegedly containing items suspected to be narcotics.

According to the statement, Management promptly dispatched a team to the Police Headquarters to verify the incident. Mr. Dogbey is currently in police custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations.

While the police conduct their inquiries, the Directorate’s newly formed Committee of Enquiry will conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Furthermore, the Directorate stated that it will enhance systems to monitor and track all official vehicles to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The statement emphasized that the Directorate remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and professionalism in its operations and will take decisive action based on the findings of the investigations.
