Bawku: Two tricycle operators ambushed and shot dead
Two tricycle operators were shot and killed in Zanamat, a suburb of Bawku township, in a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, 7th January 2026.
The victims, residents of Bankango in the Binduri District, were on their way to attend to a customer, an Ibo man residing in the Bawku township, when they were intercepted by a group of young men.
The young men summoned gunmen, who fired on the victims, killing one instantly and injuring the other. Both victims were transported to the Vineyard Hospital in Bawku, where the injured victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Azumah Emmanuel, Assembly member for the Binduri electoral area, confirmed the incident, stating that he received a call from the police indicating that two of his constituents had been shot dead.
“I received a call from the police stating that two of my electorates have been shot dead, they’re one Bissa boy and another Moshie boy,” Emmanuel Azumah, Assembly man for Binduri electoral area, stated.
The victims have been identified as Salifu Shaibu and Asaana Mbawin. This incident marks the first major casualty recorded in the area since the beginning of the year.
