Six family members die in house fire at Abuakwa Manhyia

A seven-bedroom residential building in Abuakwa Manhyia, near Wadoma Hotel, in the Ashanti Region, was ravaged by a devastating fire, resulting in the loss of six lives.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, leaving the entire house reduced to ashes and causing widespread shock and grief throughout the community.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire broke out at approximately 12:53 a.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a fire appliance from the Nkawie Fire Station.
Firefighters, led by a Station Officer II, arrived at the scene at around 1:15 a.m. and were met with an advanced fire that had rapidly spread throughout the building. Reinforcements from the Twedie Fire Station were later deployed to support the operation.

After hours of intense firefighting, the blaze was brought under control at 1:57 a.m. and completely extinguished at 3:22 a.m.
Despite the swift response, the house and all its contents were completely destroyed. Six badly charred bodies, believed to be members of the same family, were retrieved from the debris and handed over to the Police for further investigations.
Firefighters, however, managed to prevent the inferno from spreading to adjoining properties, averting what could have been an even greater disaster.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established and remains under investigation.

In the wake of the incident, the Ghana National Fire Service has cautioned homeowners against the excessive use of heavy burglar-proof systems and tightly secured doors, warning that while security is important, buildings must also allow for quick escape and easy access for rescue teams during emergencies.
