Kadjebi-Asato SHS: Students collapse as fire ravages boys’ dormitory

A fire outbreak at Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School in the Oti Region on Tuesday morning led to the collapse of several students after one of the boys’ dormitory rooms was gutted, sparking fear and chaos on campus.
The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, destroying an entire room in the dormitory block. The blaze destroyed all belongings in the affected room and tore through the roofing structure, leaving the space completely ravaged.

Logistical setbacks hindered efforts to control the fire. Firefighters who responded to the emergency call could not use the district’s fire tender.
Without functional appliances, personnel resorted to improvised methods to contain the flames, slowing their response and allowing the fire to spread rapidly.

The incident provoked panic among students, many of whom hurried to assist in evacuating valuables from nearby rooms. School administrators, assisted by community members, quickly responded to stabilise the affected students.
All students who lost consciousness were given immediate attention and have since been attended to.
