Hugo Broos unveils final 25-man squad for 2025 AFCON campaign

Hugo Broos has officially unveiled his final 25-player selection for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, sparking widespread discussion among supporters and analysts.
With Bafana Bafana preparing to compete in the continental tournament, expectations are understandably lofty, particularly in light of their impressive third-place finish at the previous edition.
South Africa’s Group B schedule features a match against Angola on 22 December, a showdown with continental powerhouses Egypt on 26 December, and a final group-stage encounter against regional rivals Zimbabwe on 29 December.
Although the team faces a challenging path ahead, optimism persists within the squad and its fan base.
Broos has largely maintained loyalty to the core group of players who have contributed to the team’s recent resurgence. However, the Belgian tactician did introduce several surprises in his final selection.
The decision to omit experienced playmaker Themba Zwane is certain to fuel debate. In contrast, the inclusion of exciting young prospects Shandre Campbell and Tylon Smith signals Broos’ intention to blend youth with experience, as he seeks to build a dynamic and energetic squad capable of competing against Africa’s best.
Meanwhile, Mduduzi Shabalala, Iqraam Rayners, and Thabo Moloisane have been named as standby players, who will be drafted into the team should any of the selected 25 players suffer injury setbacks before or during the competition.
As preparations intensify and anticipation grows, South Africa will be aiming to deliver a strong and spirited performance that rekindles belief in their quest for continental glory.
