Severe flooding in Southeast Asia causes over 1,000 deaths

Floods across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia have resulted in over 1,000 fatalities in less than a week, according to official reports.

At least 502 individuals have perished in Indonesia, 335 in Sri Lanka, 176 in Thailand, and three in Malaysia, as per official tallies.

In response, both Sri Lanka and Indonesia have mobilized military personnel to support victims and augment relief efforts amidst the catastrophic conditions.

The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics has issued warnings for sustained rainfall across much of the country, raising concerns that the flooding could intensify.

Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are ongoing in multiple areas across all affected countries as authorities and aid organizations work to reach stranded communities and provide critical assistance.
