The Weija Divisional Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of 13-year-old Celestine Adonteng, who was brutally assaulted by her father, Mason Isaac Adonteng, at Kokrobite in Accra.

A statement announcing the investigation was released on Thursday, November 20. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect, aged 54, subjected the victim to severe beatings using a cane, metal pipe, and other objects, alleging that she had taken food meant for her younger sibling.

Despite sustaining multiple injuries, the suspect failed to provide medical attention and confined the victim to a room.

Following a complaint, police officers visited the residence and found the girl unconscious. She was immediately transported to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Items retrieved from the scene include a cutlass and a metal pipe believed to have been used in the assault.

In the statement, the Accra Regional Police Command warned parents and guardians against using excessive force in disciplining children, stressing that such acts constitute criminal behaviour and often result in devastating consequences.

The Command further urged the public to promptly report all cases of child abuse and domestic violence to ensure swift intervention and protection of vulnerable victims.
