The Honourable Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, is anticipated to present himself at the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to facilitate investigations into his purported involvement in impeding an anti-illegal mining operation conducted by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat.

The invitation stems from an incident wherein a NAIMOS taskforce allegedly encountered resistance from a group of youth whilst conducting an operation against illegal mining activities near Bronikrom–Hwediem.

The operation escalated into chaos following the apprehension of two suspected illegal miners and the confiscation of vehicles and weapons at the site.

The arrests allegedly precipitated unrest among certain locals, who confronted the taskforce and disrupted their operations.

Law enforcement was subsequently called upon to restore order and safely evacuate the team. Mr. Addo, who is expected to report to the CID on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, has denied allegations that he incited the mob.

He explained that he instead intervened to calm tensions by engaging community leaders, including the Zongo Chief, to ensure the safety of the taskforce members.

According to him, his conduct during the incident was aimed at “calming tensions and preventing a possible breakdown of public order.”
