Nursing and Midwifery Council Bars Uniform Use for Content Creation

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has issued a warning regarding the unauthorized use of uniforms for creating and sharing social media content.
This warning follows the council’s attention being drawn to disturbing social media publications and videos featuring trainees, nurses’ assistants, nurses, and midwives.
These individuals have used their uniforms to create content that claims to educate the public or fellow practitioners without due authorization, expresses abusive language towards leadership and stakeholders, and disseminates misleading health information under the guise of professional advice.
Such actions are considered grossly unprofessional and violate the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct governing the nursing and midwifery professions.
These actions compromise the profession’s image and erode public trust in the healthcare system.
The Council reaffirms its sole authority to accredit institutions and license individuals to practice as Nurse Assistants, Nurses, and Midwives in Ghana.
Consequently, no individual or group is authorized to provide public education or professional guidance under the guise of the Council without prior approval or accreditation.
It therefore cautions all students and practitioners to refrain from engaging in any form of unprofessional conduct, particularly on social media platforms.
“The Council will not hesitate to invoke the necessary disciplinary measures, including suspension or revocation of licenses against any individual found culpable of breaching the professional Code of Conduct.”
“The Council wishes to remind all Students and Practitioners that the Nursing and Midwifery professions are grounded in the principles of integrity, respect, professionalism and ethical responsibility,” it added.
