The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has undertaken a significant operation in the Western Region, focusing on notorious illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) hideouts.

According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister for Government Communications, the Task Force launched a raid on “Gangway,” a crime-infested community in Aboso, Prestea-Huni Valley District on Monday, October 5, 2025.

Mr. Kwaky Ofosu reports that several makeshift structures used as hideouts and drug bases were set on fire, and galamsey equipment was destroyed.

He further stated that several hundred locals, mostly galamseyers, surrendered to the Task Force, having been involved in various social vices, including illegal mining, trading, narcotics smoking, and gambling.

Moreover, eleven parcels of Indian Hemp were seized, along with other hard drugs. This operation follows a similar one in June 2025, where NAIMOS warned criminal gangs and galamseyers to vacate the area, which were ignored, Mr. Ofosu said.

Additionally, while en route to Gangway, the NAIMOS Task Force conducted anti-galamsey operations in the Dadwen-Domping areas of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

The outcome of these operations was as follows: Confiscation of Equipment: Fifteen water pumping machines and one generator set were confiscated. Destruction of Equipment: Three chanfangs were destroyed, and other structures and equipment belonging to illegal miners were set on fire.

The NAIMOS Task Force remains committed to eradicating illegal mining and its associated social vices in the region.
