Vice President unveils Adwumawura Programme to empower 10,000 young entrepreneurs

Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has underscored that the government’s flagship Adwumawura Programme extends beyond merely providing financial support and skills training, characterizing it as a comprehensive platform for fostering a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Speaking at the onboarding and orientation ceremony of the Adwumawura Programme at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, the Vice President stated that the initiative is designed to empower young people to drive innovation, create jobs, and transform the nation’s economy.

“The Adwumawura Programme is more than funding and training; it is about creating an ecosystem that equips entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to build,” she said.

She explained that the programme offers a comprehensive package of support, including practical training in business planning, financial management, digital skills, customer service, and sustainability strategies.

Beneficiaries will also receive mentorship, start-up kits, and access to markets and networks to facilitate the growth of their ideas into viable and sustainable businesses.

“This programme is exhaustive. It will support you as you grow and scale your businesses. However, what will make the difference is your commitment, your focus, your discipline, your honesty, and your flexibility,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reminded the participants. The Vice President noted that the 10,000 beneficiaries were carefully selected through a transparent process involving representatives from government, academia, the private sector, and development partners.

“You are not here by chance. You were chosen because you demonstrated potential, determination, and readiness to embrace the task ahead,” she told the beneficiaries. She also cautioned that the entrepreneurial journey comes with challenges but encouraged participants to persevere.

“No business, no matter how successful, is free from setbacks. What will set you apart is how you rise above them and continue to innovate regardless,” she stated.

She commended trainers, mentors, and stakeholders, including the National Youth Authority, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the British Council, and the University of Ghana Business School, for their partnership in making the programme possible.
