Former DRC President Joseph Kabila Sentenced to Death for War Crimes and Treason

A military court in the Democratic Republic of Congo has sentenced former President Joseph Kabila to death in absentia on charges of treason and war crimes.
According to BBC reports, the court found Kabila guilty of colluding with the M23 rebel group and committing acts that undermined the state.
Kabila, who ruled the DRC from 2001 to 2019, was also ordered to pay billions in damages. The former leader has dismissed the ruling as politically motivated, describing it as evidence of “dictatorship” in the country.
The development marks one of the most dramatic political and legal battles in DRC’s recent history, raising tensions around governance, justice, and stability in the region.
