The police, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in the North East Region, have secured convictions for two individuals arrested at Gbintiri near Nalerigu.

Mumuni Iddrisu and Alhassan Braimah pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and possession of restricted drugs without lawful authority.

The Nalerigu Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Francis Asobayire, sentenced each of the two convicted persons to ten years in prison on each count.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of 5,000 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢60,000, on each convict, with a default sentence of further ten years imprisonment.

The two convicts have been transferred to the Gambaga local prison to begin their prison terms.

At the same time, four others, specifically Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were freed by the court, as the prosecution discovered that additional investigation indicated they were not connected to the crime.

On September 19, 2025, the North East Regional Police Command partnered with the Narcotics Control Commission in Nalerigu to seize 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg hidden in a truck and apprehend six suspects at Gbintiri near Nalerigu in the North East Region.
