The Black Queens of Ghana are gearing up to take on Egypt in the decisive qualifying round for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

This upcoming match marks a critical juncture for both teams as they vie for a position in next year’s prestigious tournament, set to take place in Morocco in March.

The victorious team in this two-legged tie will progress to WAFCON and retain their eligibility for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ghana will enter this final qualifying stage following a strong performance in the previous WAFCON held in Morocco. Under the guidance of coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens secured a bronze medal after defeating South Africa in the third-place playoff.

The upcoming qualification duel will commence with the first leg in Cairo, where Ghana will face the Egyptian Cleopatras. The outcome of this round is critical, with only one team allowed to progress to the continental finals.

The successful qualifier will join other top African teams in the 2026 WAFCON, competing for continental glory and a chance to qualify for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The WAFCON tournament has grown significantly in stature and competitiveness, making qualification a highly sought-after achievement in African women’s football.
