Media personality and entertainment pundit Nana Romeo has urged the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, to redirect his attention from DStv pricing to more pressing national concerns.

Speaking on his show on September 8, 2025, Nana Romeo stressed that DStv is a luxury service, not a necessity, and should not be treated as a core national issue. He cited former President John Mahama’s decision to stop paying for DStv subscriptions in government offices as proof that the service is non-essential.

“DStv is not a necessity. It is a luxury good. Even when the NDC came to power, the president stopped the payment of DStv in government offices. Multichoice never came to complain about it. They themselves know that DStv is not needed by everyone; anyone who can afford it can buy it,” he explained.

He further warned that shutting down DStv would negatively affect Ghanaians, noting that the platform has supported the local movie industry and remains the only broadcaster of major sporting events such as Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers.

Nana Romeo also challenged Sam George’s approach to pricing concerns, arguing that price differences exist across all sectors.

“Speaking of overpricing, a single product like a bottle of water can be sold at different prices at different places. We need a general pricing mechanism. These are the things to be fighting for. Not DStv,” he said.

He additionally reminded the minister of his strong pre-office advocacy against LGBTQ+, stressing that such issues deserve more attention than threats against DStv.
