Benjamin Bano-Bioh, Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, has announced that all required preparations for the Akwatia by-election scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, have been completed.

“The Commission is ready for tomorrow. Today, what is left is for us to do the packaging, and then at dawn, we set out to distribute our materials to all the 119 polling stations. Voting kicks off at 7 o’clock in the morning at all stations. We are ready and poised to deliver tomorrow,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, September 1, Bano-Bioh noted that the Ghana Police Service has assured of heightened security to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted voting process.

“Security, as we are aware, is the responsibility of the police. They have assured us, in the presence of all contesting political parties, that they will give their best. Everyone was concerned about what happened in Ablekuma North, but they have assured us that such incidents are behind us, and all measures are being put in place to ensure a peaceful election,” he assured.

The Director urged all political parties to keep copies of their official documents on hand to avoid confusion at the polls.

“Well-organized political parties can compile their figures, which should match the collation officer’s results, as the entire process is transparent and inclusive,” he stated.

Electorates will cast their ballots at 119 polling stations across the constituency.

The Akwatia by-election is being fiercely contested by Bernard B. Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Solomon Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NPP is determined to retain the seat, formerly held by the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, who passed away on July 7, 2025, while serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
