GES disputes reports on SHS placement cut-off points

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rejected reports circulating on social media alleging the use of fixed cut-off points for senior high school placement.
According to a statement, placements are primarily determined by candidates’ raw scores, taking into account factors such as school demand, programme competitiveness, overall candidate aggregates, and catchment area considerations.
The GES dismissed the notion of predetermined cut-off points as false and irrelevant to the placement process. It cautioned parents, guardians, and students against placing reliance on misleading reports, which the GES characterized as false.
According to the Service, these publications are created by unscrupulous individuals seeking to misinform the public.
The GES reassured stakeholders that the placement process remains transparent, fair, and merit-based, with the aim of providing every student with a deserving opportunity.
