Helicopter Crash: Fund for Children Accumulates GHC3.5m

The Children’s Support Fund, established to support children who lost their parents in the August 6 helicopter crash, has received a total of GHC 3,576,600 and $20,000 in contributions.
According to an update issued on Friday, August 29, 2025, donations received between August 19 and 28 were made by various institutions and individuals.
Notable donors include Ghana Airport Company Limited, ARB Apex Bank PLC, STL Foundation, Olam Agric, Fidelity Bank, ADB Bank, GLICO General Insurance, and the National Insurance Commission.
Furthermore, private individuals such as Kennedy Hedoe, Peter Adongo, Mensah Michael, Appaul Wiredu Lateef, Samuel Hodalor, and Dauda Iddi contributed to the Fund.
The Fund, overseen by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, aims to provide ongoing welfare support for the children left behind by the tragedy.
Dr. Sawyerr noted that donations continue to be received through Stanbic Bank Ghana accounts dedicated to the Fund, with weekly updates to ensure transparency.
The August 6 Helicopter crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, three high-profile individuals and three servicemen.
