The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has denied claims circulating on social media that it has replaced the culturally significant inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaaba” (Akan) with the word “Oobake” on the signage at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

In a statement dated August 28, 2025, and signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, the GTA clarified that it never authorised or approved any alteration to the existing inscriptions, which remain intact as symbols of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

The Authority emphasized that any revisions to signage at the national monument would require cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the relevant agency.

The GTA advised the public and stakeholders to disregard the false information and reaffirmed its pledge to preserving the park as a site of national pride and unity.

The Authority also reminded the public to verify information through its official channels before sharing.
