On Monday morning, a helicopter operated by Volta River Aviation conducted an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Eastern Region’s Kwahu West Municipality.

Available information indicates that the aircraft, registered as 9G-AFW, was traveling from Accra to Kumasi when harsh weather conditions in the area caused poor visibility, necessitating the pilot to land.

According to eyewitnesses, both the pilot and crew members have been confirmed safe.

This incident follows another recent emergency landing by a helicopter at the Presby school park in Ajumako Kokoben, which was caused by adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft, with registration number 9G-ADW, was carrying four passengers when it experienced poor visibility and turbulent winds. In response to the worsening weather and potential safety risks, the pilot took the precautionary measure of landing in an open field that appeared to be part of a local school.

The surrounding community flocked to witness the unexpected landing, gathering in awe to behold the uncommon scene.

As reported by local residents, the helicopter stayed grounded for approximately an hour while the crew evaluated weather conditions to ensure a safe resumption of the journey.

On Wednesday, August 6, a military helicopter crashed in Adansi Akrofoum in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the fatal loss of two cabinet ministers – Edward Omane Boamah, Defence Minister, and Murtalla Mohammed, Minister for Environment – along with three government officials and three crew members.
