CID Director issues 24-hour directive to SWESBUS Headmaster to produce implicated students

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Yarkor Donkor, has issued an ultimatum to the Headmaster of the Swedru School of Business, Justice Kojo Frimpong, to produce within twenty-four hours the students involved in the incident that occurred at Agona Swedru.
Failure to comply will result in severe consequences. “If someone has worn your school uniform to create such a scene or conduct themselves in such a manner, attacking a fellow human being, it gives your school a bad name. As a school, you should be concerned about finding out who did that and handing them over to the Police. I am giving you twenty-four hours to produce the students who attacked the boys. Your twenty-four hours start now,” she stated during a meeting with the Headmaster on February 23.
She emphasized, “As a law enforcement agency, we have options for arresting suspects, but because this is a school environment, we prefer not to use those means. That is why I am giving you, as school authorities, the task of producing them. If you fail to produce them, we will adopt the means law enforcement agencies use to fish out suspects.”
“What we are seeing is not mere indiscipline by students; it is a criminal act clearly outlined in our Criminal Offences Act. I do not want to storm the school with my men,” she stressed.
The visit to the school by COP Donkor is part of the Police Service’s investigation into a violent incident that marred the District Schools Athletics Games at Agona Swedru in the Central region on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
A confrontation between students from two participating schools reportedly escalated into a disorder, disrupting what was intended to showcase sporting talent and camaraderie.
Eyewitnesses stated that tensions escalated between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business, widely known as SWESBUS, culminating in a physical clash.
A student from Obrachire SHS was allegedly attacked by a group of students during the disturbance, where the victim was reportedly struck with sticks and pelted with stones before some bystanders intervened to restore calm.
In the wake of the incident, videos have surfaced on social media, capturing scenes of chaos and confusion, with a crowd gathered around the injured student as the altercation unfolded. The student was subsequently conveyed to a medical facility for treatment.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, February 23, 2026, confirmed the incident, stating that it had taken note of the footage that has gone viral
“The Ghana Police Service has sighted a viral video in which a group of people are seen pelting stones at a student. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further developments will be communicated in due course. The Service strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that all perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice,” the statement indicated.
The police have assured the public that those found culpable will face the full force of the law, as efforts continue to establish the precise circumstances that led to the confrontation.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and education stakeholders in the country, with calls for enhanced security and stricter supervision at inter-school sporting events to prevent a recurrence.
Authorities have stated that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
