Royal Nursing College Director’s wife to face court – GTEC

Prof. Augustin Ocloo, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC), disclosed that the wife of the Director of Royal Nursing College—who is also the proprietress of a Montessori school affiliated with the college—has been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The college, located at Tafo Nyhiaeso in the Ashanti Region, was shut down after management failed to provide documentation confirming its accreditation status.
GTEC reported that the institution lacked accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and disregarded a June 2024 directive ordering it to halt the admission of new students.
Prof. Ocloo stated on Eyewitness News on Thursday, February 19, that the institution’s operation was deceptive and detrimental to students and the public.
He emphasized that closing down the institution was necessary to safeguard the academic future of the more than 800 students reportedly enrolled.
“That is why we have sent the matter to court. The proprietress must now explain how she intends to address the situation of students who were due to complete, as it is unclear which institution will award them certificates,” he stated.
Prof. Ocloo further noted that the lack of proper registration and regulatory approval raised serious concerns about programme administration and academic standards, maintaining that the legal process would determine accountability, while GTEC works to ensure that affected students are not left stranded.
