Police seize truck with 3,000 slabs of suspected cannabis; GH¢150K bribe rejected

The Ghana Police Service has successfully intercepted a truck carrying in excess of 3,000 slabs of plant material believed to be narcotic drugs in the Greater Accra Region, following an intelligence-driven operation.

According to a press release issued by the Tema Regional Police Command on February 18, the operation took place in the early hours of February 15, 2026.

Police reported that at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers from the Regional Patrols Unit intercepted a Sinotruk tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya.

The vehicle, which was allegedly loaded with fertilizer sacks, was discovered to be transporting 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. Upon sighting the police, the driver purportedly abandoned the truck and fled the scene.

The truck and its contents have been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters to facilitate ongoing investigations. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the driver and verify the ownership of the vehicle.

In a related development, the police disclosed that on February 16 at about 7:10 p.m., two suspects, Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35, were arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe officers at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Office in Tema.

The suspects allegedly offered GH¢150,000 in cash in a bid to influence officers to release both the vehicle and the suspected narcotics.

The money has been retrieved and retained as an exhibit. The two men are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before the court.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating narcotics-related offenses and upholding integrity in the discharge of its duties.
