Health Ministry directs enhanced security measures at healthcare facilities following infant theft at Mamprobi Polyclinic

The Ministry of Health has ordered stricter security measures at health facilities nationwide following the reported theft of a baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
In a statement issued on February 18, 2026, the Ministry said the directive comes in response to the incident, which has sparked public concern about safety in health facilities.
The Ministry commended the swift response of the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other stakeholders, especially the whistle blower whose alert helped bring attention to the case.
According to the statement, the Minister for Health has directed the Director General of the Ghana Health Service to ensure the immediate enforcement of strict day and night security measures across all health facilities in the country.
Facility administrators have also been instructed to review and strengthen their internal security protocols without delay.
The Ministry further reiterated an earlier government directive requiring all health facilities to install and maintain functional CCTV surveillance systems to improve monitoring and accountability.
While investigations into the baby theft at Mamprobi Polyclinic continue, the Ministry assured the public that the government remains committed to safeguarding patients and ensuring accountability within the health sector. It also called for calm as the case is being handled.
The statement was signed by Isaac Ofei Baah, Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of Health.
