Former Fifa President Sepp Blatter Backs World Cup Boycott

Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has urged fans to boycott the 2026 World Cup in the United States, expressing concerns over safety and immigration policies.
Blatter endorsed comments by Swiss anti-corruption expert Mark Pieth, who warned fans to “stay away” from the US due to issues such as marginalization of political opponents and abuses by immigration services.
In a post on X on Monday, Blatter supported comments made by Swiss anti-corruption expert Mark Pieth, who questioned the suitability of the United States as a World Cup host.
The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Pieth cited the killing of protester Renee Good by an American immigration agent in Minneapolis as a reason for fans to avoid traveling to the US. Blatter agreed, stating “I think Mark Pieth is right to question this World Cup” and advising fans to watch the tournament on TV instead.
The 2026 World Cup is set to be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has dismissed concerns, expecting fans to attend in large numbers.
