The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi, has issued an order for the immediate closure of Alpha and Omega Chop Bar, a popular food joint situated in the Krobo-Odumase (K.O) area of Kumasi’s Central Business District, owing to inadequate sanitary conditions.

The directive followed an inspection tour by the Mayor on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, during which a strong offensive stench was detected from an overflowing drain that had spilt onto the main road, posing a serious public health risk to traders and commuters in the area.

During the tour, it was also discovered that waste discharged from the food joint had choked the drainage system, leading to the overflow.

The situation was further worsened by the operations of a public toilet facility situated directly behind the food establishment.

The KMA boss ordered that the operators of the toilet facility be summoned to court for operating with forged documentation and without a septic tank, instead discharging waste directly into the drain.

More than 10 other shops whose activities were found to be contributing to the poor sanitary conditions have also been summoned to court.

The Mayor cautioned operators of food and sanitation facilities to strictly adhere to environmental and public health regulations or face sanctions.

“We are summoning all of them to court for the law to deal with them,” he said.

He appealed to all operators of food outlets and sanitation facilities to comply with environmental and public health regulations, cautioning that failure to do so would attract strict punishment or penalties.

“We expect strict adherence to the laws. Public health cannot be compromised,” he said.
