IGP promotes 35 Police officers over Adabraka gold robbery arrests
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the promotion of 35 police officers in recognition of their exemplary performance in the arrest of suspects connected to the Adabraka gold robbery in Accra.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Thursday, January 15, the promotions were conferred upon the personnel in acknowledgement of their exceptional professionalism, dedication, and teamwork exhibited during the operations that resulted in the suspects’ arrest.
The statement further noted that IGP Yohuno, in collaboration with members of the Police Management Board, congratulated the officers on their promotion, urging them to perceive the elevations as a call to higher responsibility, leadership, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to recognizing merit and rewarding excellence as a means of fortifying professionalism, boosting morale, and enhancing effective policing nationwide.
In November 2024, a group of heavily armed individuals carried out a daring daylight robbery in the Adabraka area, targeting a jewellery shop.
Footage from the scene showed at least five heavily built men wielding various firearms and firing shots into the air as they loaded stolen items, including bags believed to contain money, into a silver vehicle.
Witnesses stated that the robbers ordered a bystander who had raised his hands in surrender to comply with their demands.
At one point, the suspects were seen scattering some of the money they had seized while continuing to fire warning shots. After loading the stolen items, the robbers sped off while firing additional shots into the air.
The incident left at least one person injured after being hit by gunfire from the suspected robbers. Another video showed residents rushing the injured man to the hospital for treatment.
Police investigations into the case have since led to the arrest of three suspects, with the promoted officers playing key roles in the operations that resulted in the arrests.
