The Black Galaxies of Ghana suffered a narrow loss to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in a pre-AFCON 2025 friendly match, with the hosts claiming a 1-0 victory.

Kassim Mingle Ocansey’s men delivered a solid first-half performance, holding the South Africans to a goalless draw at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

However, Hugo Broos’ team gained momentum after the break, taking charge of the game and creating opportunities just 10 minutes into the second half.

This dominance was rewarded two minutes later, as Sipho Mbule intercepted a pass and scored from distance, beating Lawrence Osei in the 57th minute, despite Ghana’s defense putting up a strong effort.

Razak Simpson had earlier cleared an attempted pass, but the follow-up pass was intercepted by Mbule.

For the Black Galaxies, this was a good opportunity to test their readiness against top opposition.
South Africa, according to the Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, wanted this friendly against Ghana as a preparatory encounter despite being aware that they would not face the Black Stars due to the timing.
Ghana will not be at the continental competition after failing to win a single game during the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, South Africa are in Group B alongside Angola, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.
They open their campaign against Angola on Monday, December 22, 2025, before clashing with Egypt and Zimbabwe, respectively.
