Police rescue 11-year-old girl, arrest two over viral abuse video

Police have arrested two people following the circulation of a disturbing video showing the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were carried out by the Ghana Police Service through the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after the footage went viral online. Swift investigations led officers to Agona Jamasi, where Grace Mensah was first arrested.
Further operations resulted in the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the video assaulting the child.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on December 6, 2025, the girl reportedly left home and did not return. During police questioning, Osei Akoto claimed he had been authorised by the child’s grandmother to discipline her.
The victim has since been rescued and is safe. Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit for further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service says it remains committed to protecting children and will deal firmly with all forms of abuse.
