Volta Region: Police destroy 600 sacks of Indian Hemp worth GH¢4.2bn

The Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has carried out the destruction of 600 sacks of Indian hemp, weighing 47,530 kilograms and valued at an estimated GH¢4.2 billion, bringing to a close a high-profile narcotics case that has been before the Ho Circuit Court for several years.
The consignment, seized in 2022, was incinerated on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Klefe dumping site in Ho under heavy security supervision.

This destruction was carried out following a court order issued by His Honour Felix Datsumor after the exhibits were officially tendered in evidence in the case involving Yao Kwadwo, also known as Wallako, and two others.
The exercise was overseen by officials from the Circuit Court, the Attorney General’s Office, the Narcotics Control Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Police and National Security personnel were present to guarantee transparency and adherence to legal procedures.

The operation showcases the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and enforcing laws on controlled substances.
