A/R: NAIMOS storms galamsey sites in Obuasi, confiscates equipment in large-scale operation

The National Anti-illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has carried out a significant operation to disrupt illegal mining activities in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Following intelligence reports, the taskforce raided galamsey sites at Anyankyirem, a mining concession lawfully acquired by Ashanti Gold Corporation.

The site had reportedly been forcibly taken over by illegal miners from Amansie, thus preventing the company from accessing its concession.

The NAIMOS team also secured strategic areas around the Obuasi Airport, where illicit mining activities had been reported.

During the operation, several mining equipment, including motorbikes, vehicles, and water pumps, were seized, and makeshift structures and other tools used for illicit mining were destroyed.

Although many illegal miners fled upon the arrival of the task force, one person suspected to be a key organiser of the operations in Obuasi was arrested.

He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and possible prosecution.
