NHIA Waives Waiting Period, Enables Instant NHIS Access until Dec 14

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has introduced a special initiative to improve access to healthcare services for Ghanaians under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

As part of the NHIS Active Month campaign, the usual one-month waiting period for newly enrolled members and those renewing membership after more than three months of expiry has been waived, effective until December 14, 2025.

This means that all eligible members who renew or enroll during the NHIS Active Month will have immediate access to NHIS services, without the usual waiting period, as announced by the NHIA.

The campaign aims to increase active membership and ensure equitable access to healthcare.

The NHIA encourages members to utilize convenient renewal options, including visiting any NHIS District Office, using the MyNHIS App, or dialing the NHIS Mobile Renewal short code *929#. Members can also opt for the Auto-Renewal option for added convenience.

“We urge everyone, especially those whose membership has expired for more than three months, to renew promptly and continue enjoying the benefits of quality, affordable healthcare,” the notice added.
