Tamale Technical University Hospital shut down by HeFRA over safety breaches

The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has issued a directive for the immediate closure of the Tamale Technical University Hospital due to significant safety and infection prevention concerns.
In a statement released on Monday, November 10, HeFRA revealed that intelligence reports, supported by video and photographic evidence, indicated that healthcare services at the facility were being provided under conditions that were unsafe and unhygienic.
A follow-up inspection conducted by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on Monday, November 3, 2025, confirmed these reports and further discovered that the hospital had been operating with an expired license, in contravention of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).
HeFRA has instructed that the hospital remain closed from Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety lapses and infection control issues are rectified.
The facility has also been fined GHS35,000 and directed to regularize its licensing status prior to resuming operations.
