President John Dramani Mahama has conveyed profound condolences over the tragic loss of six young women during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Addressing the gathering at the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 12, the President characterized the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy for the entire nation, noting that all six victims were female applicants who had gone to the stadium with the hope of serving their country.

The President said, ‘I have been informed by the military that six young women, who sought an opportunity to serve their nation, lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident.

We are praying for the 12 others who remain in critical condition.’ The President extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The President demanded a meticulous investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident, underscoring the need for improved safety measures during public recruitment drives and national events.

A devastating stampede unfolded on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, as thousands of job seekers swarmed the El-Wak Sports Stadium for a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.

The Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed six deaths, with multiple others injured and receiving medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.

The recruitment exercise has been suspended until further notice as investigations are ongoing.
