Helicopter crash: Full report to be presented to National Security Council on Monday

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, has announced that the detailed report on the August 6 helicopter tragedy will be presented to the National Security Council on Monday, November 10.

The crash involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force. The aircraft departed from Accra at around 09:12 on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, bound for Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on an anti-illegal-mining mission, before losing radar contact and crashing in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

All eight people on board lost their lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed Limuna, NDC Vice-Chair Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The report has been prepared subsequent to an investigation chaired by Abdul‑Osman Razak, National Security Coordinator, with contributions from the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and international advisers.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, the report’s details will be shared with the public at a media briefing on Tuesday, offering insights into the findings and recommendations aimed at preventing future accidents.

“A vital week is forthcoming. Tomorrow [November 10], the report on the August 6 Helicopter tragedy will be presented to the National Security Council. On Tuesday, the report’s findings will be publicly disclosed during a media briefing,” he announced on his Facebook page on Sunday, November 9.
