Asante Kotoko edged out Hearts of Oak 1-0 in a fiercely contested Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

The turning point of the match came just before halftime when Kotoko were awarded a penalty for a challenge inside the box by Amankwah Baafi on Peter Amidu Acquah. Morifing Donzo of Kotoko converted the penalty with ease, putting the Porcupine Warriors ahead.

The penalty sparked controversy among fans but ultimately proved decisive, as Hearts failed to overturn the deficit. Hearts of Oak responded strongly in the second half, creating numerous chances.

Raphael Amponsah had a notable long-range shot, and a blocked pass nearly set up Hamza Issah, but the Phobians could not find the back of the net.

In stoppage time, Mawuli Wayo’s spectacular goal was disallowed for offside after consultation between Amoah and his assistants, preserving Kotoko’s lead.

Kotoko established a strong precedent early on, with notable performances from Saaka Dauda and Hubert Gyau, while Hearts initially struggled to find their footing.

Statistically, Kotoko maintained a slight advantage, with six shots compared to Hearts’ five and three shots on target versus one for the visitors. Possession was evenly distributed throughout the match.

This victory marked Kotoko’s fourth win in the last five league encounters with Hearts of Oak. Kotoko advanced to seventh in the league standings, trailing the leaders by five points despite having played three fewer matches.

Hearts suffered their first league defeat of the season and are set to face Swedru All Blacks midweek, while Kotoko travel to Vision FC.
