‘You can never be the richest man in the cemetery’ – Ibrahim Mahama

Ghanaian philanthropist and businessman Ibrahim Mahama stresses that wealthy individuals in Ghana have a responsibility to support their local communities. He asserts that failing to do so, especially when there is a clear need, is unwise.
Mr. Mahama believes that supporting local areas is essential and a smart decision. While speaking at an engagement with movie stars in Kumasi on Saturday, October 25, 2025, he emphasized this philosophy and extended an invitation to the collaborative dramalogue program “Akwaaba vs Oobakɛ”, presented by Liezer-Legacy Productions in partnership with Kumawood Ashanti Film Association (KAFA).
He noted, “If you live in a country where help is needed and you don’t provide it, you’re not acting wisely. You can’t be the wealthiest person in the cemetery.” He further stated, “You’ll eventually die and leave your wealth behind.”
Mahama issued a heartfelt appeal to Ghanaians, particularly those with financial resources, to address community challenges through unified efforts, promoting collective problem-solving irrespective of political affiliations.
This call to action was made during the ‘Akwaaba vs Oobakɛ’ event, part of the Ashanti Dramalogue, underscoring Mahama’s dedication to Ghana’s film industry revitalization.
Proceeds from the event will support KAFA’s permanent office complex, fostering structured growth for film and theatre in the Ashanti region.
Mahama’s sentiments align with his philanthropic inclinations, reflecting broader discussions on corporate social responsibility and community development in Ghana.
Social media responses to his statement reflected appreciation for his stance on unity and societal contribution. Comments praised his humility and vision for collective progress.
His advice underscores the role of wealthy individuals and corporate entities in fostering Ghana’s socio-economic advancement, potentially catalyzing dialogue on impactful giving and collaborative nation-building efforts.
He ended by calling on the affluent in the country to support the needy in society.
