W/R: 3 Chinese Arrested Over Galamsey at Hiawa Koofrom

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce has apprehended three Chinese nationals at an illicit mining site located in Hiawa Koofrom, within the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.

This operation was undertaken subsequent to intensified efforts to combat illegal mining.

Acting on credible intelligence received from an informant, which included the GPS coordinates of the site, the NAIMOS taskforce departed for Hiawa Koofrom at approximately 0910 hours.

The three Chinese nationals were among several Ghanaian illegal miners; however, the latter fled the scene following a tipoff by local Okada riders, as reported by the Ministry.

The taskforce seized a pump action gun with four cartridges, and two excavators utilized for destructive mining along the Ankobrah River.
