Four arrested as Blue Water Guards crack down on illegal mining operation

The Blue Water Guards have arrested four people in a renewed crackdown on illegal mining activities in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region.
The operation, led by the unit’s second in command, Mr Alex Animah, followed intelligence reports about rising illegal mining operations in communities such as Wassa Asikuma. The activity had threatened water bodies and farmland in the area.
The team also destroyed equipment used in the illegal operations to prevent further environmental damage. Mr Animah stated that the Blue Water Guards would continue to protect the municipality’s natural resources and warned that anyone involved in illegal mining would face the law.
“We will not tolerate the destruction of our environment or the exploitation of our resources,” he stated.
“Our actions today send a clear message that illegal mining will not be allowed in Wassa Amenfi East.” The operation, officials stated, disrupted several illegal mining activities along roadsides and water bodies, helping to safeguard the municipality’s ecosystem.

When the team arrived at the site, they found miners attempting to conceal their equipment as heavy machinery roared nearby. The Guards moved in quickly, secured the area, and arrested four suspects. Several mobile phones and pumping machines were seized and sent to the Wassa Akropong Police Station for investigation.
