Stop charging unauthorised PTA dues – GES cautions school heads

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a caution to school heads against demanding or collecting unapproved levies under the guise of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) dues.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyí, the GES indicated that it had received reports of some second-cycle institutions collecting unauthorized levies.
The Service clarified that no school has been authorized to collect PTA or development levies without prior approval, emphasizing that approval must come from the District Education Oversight Committee (DEOC) through the District Director of Education for basic schools, and from the Regional Director of Education for second-cycle institutions.
Furthermore, GES stressed that payment of such levies remains strictly voluntary, and no student should be denied access to school services, rights, or benefits due to non-payment.
The statement directed that school heads, teachers, and GES staff members should not be involved in collecting PTA levies, highlighting that fundraising activities are the sole responsibility of duly elected PTA executives.
The GES instructed Regional and District Directors to ensure compliance with the directive and report any breaches for immediate disciplinary action.
