A 32-year-old man who impersonated a police officer by wearing the uniform of a deceased Chief Inspector to gain unauthorized access to Shatta Wale’s concert at the Black Star Square in Accra last Saturday has been taken into custody by the police.

The National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit of the Ghana Police Service arrested the suspect, Akoto Nelson, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, during the musical event. The Police Service confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the police, officers providing security at the concert observed the suspect dressed in a police uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police displaying suspicious behavior.

Upon interrogation, he admitted to not being a police officer, as stated in the statement.

According to the statement, investigations revealed that the suspect impersonated a police officer to gain unauthorized access to the concert, claiming he was unable to afford the entry fee.

The suspect allegedly obtained the police uniform from a deceased Chief Inspector named Gyasi in 2022.

A search of the suspect’s residence in Taifa-Ashaiman yielded several items, including a toy pistol, pepper spray, and various identification documents, which were retained as evidence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is employed as a security guard and messenger at a private company. He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court.
