Ghana’s Spintex Knights Basketball Club is on the cusp of launching its campaign in the 2026 Road To BAL competition this weekend.

The qualification process for the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) main stage is scheduled to occur from October 17 to 19 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.

As reigning champions of the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division, Spintex Knights have been assigned to Group B of Division West.

Their opponents in the group stage include Liberia’s LPRC Oilers, Elan Coton of Benin, and Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan, representing the host nation.

The competition will employ a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Elite 16 stage.

By progressing to the Elite 16, Spintex Knights will compete against qualifiers from Division West Group A, thus moving closer to the main BAL competition.

In 2025, Spintex Knights made history as the first Ghanaian club to advance beyond the divisional level to the Elite 16, although they fell short of reaching the main tournament.

The Knights missed out on the final stage last year, with Libya’s Al-Ahly Benghazi clinching both qualification and ultimately winning the entire BAL championship.

This year, the team hopes to surpass that milestone and make a strong impact on the continental basketball scene.

In preparation for the tournament, Spintex Knights bolstered their lineup by signing Canadian guard of Ghanaian descent, Yaw Antwi-Bosiako.

Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, Antwi-Bosiako brings valuable experience from his collegiate career at York University, strengthening the team’s quest for BAL qualification.
