UDS Emerges As First African Champions Of FISU University World Cup

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has made history by defeating Brazil’s Paulista University 2-1, winning the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football title.
The final, held on Sunday morning, saw the Tamale-based team face off against the defending champions in a thrilling match. Paulista initially secured the lead, utilizing their experience to gain an early upper hand.
UDS displayed remarkable resilience throughout the match. Despite facing considerable pressure, particularly in the second half, the Ghanaian team showed unyielding resolve, ultimately earning a dramatic equalizer deep into stoppage time to force extra time.
Both teams aggressively pursued victory in the additional minutes, and as the match seemed headed for a penalty shootout, UDS struck the decisive blow, converting a late corner kick to secure a celebrated 2-1 victory.
This triumph not only dethroned Paulista University but also represented a groundbreaking achievement, as UDS became the first African university to claim the FISU University World Cup trophy.
