Prof Alidu Seidu Mahama Declared Tamale Central MP-elect

Prof Alidu Seidu Mahama, former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect for the Tamale Central Constituency.
He will succeed the late Hon Murtala Mohammed, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash on August 6. The declaration follows the withdrawal of nominations by all other interested parties.
According to Muniru Issah, the Returning Officer for the Tamale Central constituency, “LPG submitted letters to the Returning Officer indicating their interest in withdrawing from the contest after the close of nominations.”
Pursuant to CI 127, the Electoral Commission has reopened nominations for an additional ten-day period. This ten-day period expired on the day preceding Sunday. Consequently, Prof Alidu Seidu Mahama remains the sole nominated candidate. In accordance with the aforementioned constitutional provision, the candidate was declared MP-elect.
“In light of this development, I, Muniru Issah, Returning Officer for the Tamale Central constituency, hereby declare Prof Alidu Seidu Mahatma as the MP-elect for Tamale Central Constituency, in accordance with CI 12(7).”
