NPP supporters mass up at Circle in anticipation of ‘yen suro ahunahuna’ protest

NPP supporters are assembling at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in preparation for the party’s “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” protest against alleged government intimidation and police harassment.
A significant number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters have gathered at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle ahead of the party’s “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration against the government and the Police.
The protest, scheduled for today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, seeks to challenge what the NPP describes as politically motivated harassment, intimidation, and abuse of state institutions against its members.
According to party members, the demonstration is necessary due to targeted arrests, prolonged remands, and selective investigations of opposition figures, while government officials facing similar allegations receive lenient treatment.
Recently, at a press conference, NPP National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha referenced the arrest and detention of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), and alleged harassment of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and several pro-NPP social media activists as triggers for the protest.
Mustapha alleged that the ruling NDC government is undermining Ghana’s democratic foundations by re-establishing a culture of silence and displaying authoritarian tendencies under President John Dramani Mahama.
The protest, dubbed “Yen Suro Ahunahuna”—loosely translated as “We are not afraid of intimidation”—is anticipated to draw thousands of supporters, with many already gathered at Circle.
