Ghana Card to Double as Digital Wallet – National Identification Authority

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that the Ghana Card will soon serve not only as a national ID but also as a digital wallet for electronic payments.

According to the NIA, the integration will allow Ghanaians to use their Ghana Cards for cashless transactions, including everyday purchases, government services, and financial transfers.

Officials say the move is part of Ghana’s broader digitalization and financial inclusion agenda, making the card a one-stop tool for identification, verification, and payment.

The upgrade is expected to reduce dependency on physical cash, streamline transactions, and push Ghana further towards a modern digital economy.
