Fighting over Akwaaba and Obaakɛ gives tribal bigots the opportunity to be very tribalistic- Nana Aba Anamoah opines.

Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has slammed the ongoing debate about whether national facilities on Ga land should have signage changed to the Ga language, describing it as misplaced priorities.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on September 4, 2025, Nana Aba argued that the back-and-forth over inscriptions like Oobakɛ, Woezor, and Akwaaba only distracts from more pressing national issues.
“Why are we going on and on about Oobakɛ, Woezor, and Akwaaba, when we have real problems in this country? There are people who are done with National Service. They don’t know when they are getting jobs, they don’t know where their next income would come from, and they don’t know where their next meal would come from. These are real problems. Our roads are killing us; we are experiencing typhoid outbreaks, which is a serious problem. I thought it was very unnecessary,” she stated.
Nana Aba noted that such conversations give tribal bigots room to push divisive narratives online. She recalled her recent post on X (formerly Twitter) on August 28, 2025, where she dismissed the calls for signage changes as “tribalism nonsense.”
“I used the word tribalism because every time such a thing comes up, it gives tribal bigots the opportunity to enter the conversation and be very tribalistic. They just look for that opportunity, and I saw so many of them,” she explained.
According to her, Ghana must focus on solving real challenges such as unemployment, poor healthcare, and bad roads instead of being fixated on signage debates.
